Museum of Islamic Art
The museum of Islamic Art was inaugurated in 2004. Its collection occupies more than 1000 square meters comprising 8000 work of arts that cover islamic art evolution from the 7th through the 19th century. The masterpieces of the museum have origins from different countries like India,Persia,Mesopotamia, Egypt,Sicily,Spain and others. Ceramics, pottery, metalwork, gold, woodcarvings, glasswork and textiles, bone carvings, inscribed funerary steles, arms and armor are some of the exhibits showcased. When renovating the Neo Classical building hosting the museum, workers uncovered a section of ancient city wall of Athens in the basement which is now accesible to the visitors.
